What SWP is

SWP stands for "Small White Pieces" — broken cashew kernel fragments typically 2–4mm in size, retained white colour. The kernels broke during processing into smaller fragments than LWP (Large White Pieces) but larger than BB (Baby Bits). White colour means they meet AFI specifications for premium piece grades.

Best uses

  • Cashew flour — SWP grinds more uniformly than LWP, reducing flour particle-size variability
  • Vegan cheese — SWP soaks and blends faster than larger pieces, giving smoother end product
  • Cashew protein powder — typical input for cashew-based protein supplements
  • Ingredient inclusion in fine bakery, biscuits, crackers
  • Cereal and granola bar manufacturing where small inclusion size matters
  • Cashew-based salad dressings and sauces

The SWP arbitrage

For applications using ground or pulverized cashew (flour, protein powder, vegan cheese base), SWP is the most cost-efficient grade by a wide margin — typically 30–35% cheaper than LWP for end-product spec that's functionally identical. Many ingredient manufacturers buy SWP exclusively and accept slightly higher quality-control overhead (more careful aflatoxin and moisture testing) in exchange for the cost saving.
