What W240 is

W240 sits in the sweet spot of the premium kernel market. The "240" means a count not exceeding 240 whole, white kernels per pound — typically 220–240. That's about 485–528 nuts per kilogram. The kernels are larger than the standard W320 grade but more available than the rarer W180 or W210, which makes W240 the default premium choice for buyers who want visual presence without paying jumbo prices.

Visual and physical spec

  • Colour: White or pale ivory. No scorched marks, no shrivelling, no insect damage.
  • Shape: Whole, characteristic kidney shape. ≤5% broken tolerance under AFI spec.
  • Moisture: ≤5% (typical 3–4%).
  • Foreign matter: ≤0.05%.
  • Aflatoxin: ≤4 ppb (EU spec), ≤10 ppb (US spec).

Best uses

  • Premium retail snack packs (200g, 500g, 1kg)
  • Festive and gift assortments (Diwali, Eid, Christmas)
  • HoReCa garnish and snacking
  • Premium roasted-and-salted, honey-glazed, spice-coated lines
  • Single-origin and organic premium SKUs

Pricing dynamics

W240 carries a roughly 15–20% premium over W320, the workhorse grade. Premium varies by season — when the West African RCN harvest is strong (Mar–May), the kernel grade pyramid shifts toward larger pieces and the W240 premium compresses; in lean seasons it widens.

Sourcing checklist

  1. Confirm FSSAI / APEDA registration of the Indian processor, or BRC / HACCP for Vietnamese
  2. Request a 250g pre-shipment sample
  3. Specify packaging (vacuum tin standard, N₂/CO₂ on request)
  4. Confirm Incoterms (FOB, CIF, CFR, DDP)
  5. Agree payment terms (LC at sight is standard; TT for repeat orders)
  6. Verify aflatoxin and moisture certificates per destination market
